PUBLIC NOTICE VIRTUAL Public Information Meeting WHO: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) WHAT: Virtual Public Information Meeting for the former Waikoloa Maneuver Area - Areas B, O, Q, and J Munitions Response Site, comprising 4,481 acres including Waimea town, Lalamilo Farm Lots, and areas along Kawaihae Road. WHEN: Thursday, March 25, 2021, 4-6 p.m. WHERE: Weblink: https://usace1.webex.com/meet/daisy Webex Audio: 1.669.234.1177 Audio Passcode: 1994948768# WHY: A remedial design is being conducted throughout the 4,481- acre munitions response site in order to review historical data generated from previous response actions and collect additional data to support future actions and site closure. Additional data may be collected using on-site geophysical methods (i.e., metal detection), such as digital mapping, with identification of potential subsurface targets of interest (i.e., munitions) through analysis of geophysical data. Scanning the ground surface with handheld metal detectors may also be used. Hand digging of potential items identified through these methods may be necessary in some areas. USACE will present details on the anticipated remedial design schedule and methodology. Representatives will be available during the public meeting to receive comments and answer questions.
