PIKE'S CORNER Why should 2020 just be the 5th ring of hell for humans? I mean after all "we are all in this together" seems to be the collective mantra for the global collective. I thought this numerous times in my quest to get my family off the couch and out for a walk or to get them up to force them to go for a run by pretending to need to vomit. I even decided to act depressed in hopes they would pay more attention to Rome and me and less attention the "Amazing Race". Then as fate should have it 1 got pulled into the 2020 vortex known at the Newton Tornado. At first I thought killing him might be a good option. Mom made sure to let me know that option was not on the table and I really need to think long and hard about where my teeth are at all times. This meant I could not kill or injured the puppy. I decide that taking myself out of the equation was the best option and I was hiding out in my sister room until my mom started puppy training and suddenly there were treats in the pocket of every person in my household. I really love supporting a good cause so, I am taking this opportunity to go back to obedience classes and so far I am learning a lot. Mom started class training with "sit". She has a hand signal for this. This is what she needs to teach Newton but Rome and I already know how to do it. So while mom is sitting there saying "sit Newton, good dog" like a billion times, Rome and I have been sitting forever. It's ok she is throwing treats at us the whole time like she is feeding a parking meter. I think she is softly whispering to her selfa million times a day what was I thinking. She basically looks exhausted all the time now and it is all NEWTONS FAULT. Here is what I have learned in 2 full weeks with my new housemate. He is very very fast for a puppy. I can only imagine this is going to be an issue in the near future. I can currently out run him but as his stride gets longer I may be in real trouble. He is basically walking around with a mouth full of needles and no surface is safe. This is evident by the numerous scratches and punctures my mom is currently sporting on her arms and hands. He basically only has 2 speeds, off and hyper-speed. Last, but not least he has his days and nights mixed up. He is up all night and basically sleeps all day, making coffee not just a necessity for my parents but if suddenly coffee becomes unavailable the world may actually just end at my household. I am hoping as he settles into every bed in the house but his that he will get into the Head family routine and sort out his issues quickly. I am also hoping that we can all learn to get along. Until he figures out that neither Rome nor myself are into acupuncture and basically want nothing to do with his biting bits, integration into the family might be a little hard for him. As much as I know he wants to be part of the pack, this pup has a long way to go to earning his place and getting to run with the big dogs. Until then his short little life might be a bit -Ruff.
