PET CHRONICLES Well this week has been as good a case as any for needing the healing and calming power of a pet to lower our collective blood pressure and help calm us down. I know personally I have been clenching my jaw so much the last few days that my collarbone hurts where the large muscles in my neck connect my head to my body. My teeth have never been more grateful for my current situation of Invisalign retainers so that I am not grinding enamel on enamel. My disposition is nothing but edgy and despondent most days that end in "Y as of late, yet I find myself trying to stay positive. Having a rambunctious naughty puppy has helped tremendously. Distractions are no longer a want but a need and I need all the distractions I can get. We are busy as ever here at the hospital. We have made the decision in the interest of health and safety to continue with the current curbside model we are currently working from through the end of the year. We have also decided in the interest of all our mental health to continue to forgo opening up on Saturday's through the rest of the year. This year has been challenging and we are finding that making sure we take care of our emotional, physical and mental health is being pushed to the front of our priority list. Our staff including Dr. Head seem to be happier as a result and while its not ideal financially, sometimes you have to make choices that make you returns in other ways. We are excited about some of the things we have been able to accomplish as a result of this extra day off and while I can tell you its not really a day off bcing on call we are finding we are more engaged with our island and the people and places that get forgotten and neglected when you are so busy all the time. We have had time to explore areas of our island we had only heard about and really embrace a slower family life. Home made dinners, and time spent watching programs that not only brings us joy but engage us in the world outside our bubble of Hawaii and all that entails. We are also excited about the extra time we have had to train new staff and get everyone up to speed for when we are able to reopen our doors and welcome you all back inside. This year has taught us a lot about how to manage stress and how to lead effectively and still move forward and be competitive and progressive despite the current political and economic turmoil around us. Hearing our staff laughing and enjoying the day is so refreshing. Knowing that they have jobs and their benefits are paid is a relief to them and to us as we have navigated this year together. Knowing how they have rallied around us to make sure no matter what is going on around us that we are a team and we all matter. We are all here because this is where we need to be and the choices we have made as a team have made us stronger than we were a year ago, While we know that as this year winds down the battles and frustrations will still come. We also know that we are surrounded by people who are in this together. They are our ohana and no matter how dark the days ahead may seem, no matter how many difficult choices we have to make, tears we cry, or problems we are faced with, we are Keauhou Veterinary Hospital. We are here in service to our community, in service to our industry and most importantly in service to cach other. That what it is all about to us. That is why we do what we do. So stay safe out there, stay kind to one another, stay hopeful and most importantly stay sane. Keauhou Veterinary Hospital, Experience your pet deserves, Experience you can trust.
