PIKE'S CORNER Can you believe it has been 3 years since the start of the pandemic that changed everything? I often hear my parents talk about that March how this was their last normal weekend or how this was the last normal get together with no masks. It's crazy to think but my life didn't change much during that time. I had the advantage of Miss E being home all the time because my grandma Jan was here visiting and ended up staying for several weeks at the start of it all. No, you see my life was better, everyone I loved was home more and I didn't go back and forth to the office each day so really it was a win win for me. Had I known that at the end of June 2020 a creature would be born into this world that would change my life and my families lives forever, I would have found a way to go back and time and make sure that this creature never crossed paths with my family. Newton, yes Newton is that creature and by all accounts has basically up ended our whole world. Everything we know in our lives from the minute he was born to when he came home to our family in August just after my mom's birthday makes me wish my mom didn't keep her promises. She promised my sister if they were even not traveling, she could get a puppy. What was the chance that would ever happen was, I am sure, mom's logic. Well, damn the logic, the pandemic threw that right out the window. I heard my sister mention that Newtons birthday is coming up at the end of the month and they should really think about getting him something fun this year. Last year he got a splash pad he doesn't even use. I can't wait to see what my sister comes up with in the next few weeks. I am hoping it's a one-way ticket to go stay with my Grandma Jan on her farm in Minnesota forever. I know that will not happen, but a dog can dream right? I am sure Grandma Jan would send him right back after he chased her chickens or disturbed the bear that lives in her woods. Either way I guess I am stuck with him. Mom always tells my dad he is stuck with her for life or longer... I am beginning to think this is the case for Newton and my relationship as well. Here is to life or longer.
