PET CHRONICLES HELLO 2023! Well, It's hard to imagine that we are already 6 days into this New Year. I feel like I was just putting the tree up and now everything is boxed up and put away for another year. We passed our AAHA inspection with flying colors last year (late December) and we are excited about all the amazing things they said about our practice and about all the wonderful things we are doing. We have some really big plans for this year and we are hoping to make sure to kick it off right. For starters our amazing daughter Miss Elaina Head will be competing in the Miss Hawaii Teen USA pageant next weekend on Oahu on January 15th and we can hardly believe it. Newton will be 3 years old this year (surprisingly) and Pike will turn 15 in March. We will bet celebrating 16 years this June since we moved to back to Hawai'i and purchased the practice on July 6th 2007. In the last 16 years, we have had all kinds of adventures. We have had countless stories to share. Some have been happy, some funny, and some sad. Sometimes we have had to talk about things that were hard and other times we couldn't wait to share with you one of our crazy stories from the trenches of our wacky world. I thought this would be the perfect time to share the latest tale... and tell you all that Newton has decided he is officially afraid of cats. Ever since he was a puppy, the cats have been a curiosity to him. Queso let him know very early on that he was just a dog and would never be t on the same level as the cats that orbited our world. He beat him up numerous times but Newton always went back for more. He loves to chase our clinic cats (Rooster and Bamboo) around the office and only when Queso would make him rethink the plan did he decided he had enough. Until recently that is. You see we have an invisible fence at our house, to keep him in the yard and to keep him out of areas where he could get hurt. Well he got shocked in the yard chasing the cat out of it and squealed like a baby pig and was afraid to go outside after that. For a few weeks now when he comes into the office he was steering clear of the cats in the cages. Then the other day he decided to venture too close to a cage and when the cat growled at him you would have thought he was shot. He screamed out in the most high-pitched yelp and ran away into our office with his tail between his legs. Since then he doesn't seem to want to go near any of the cats. We are grateful because that means he will no longer be barking at our cats when he is in our office. It also means the next cat that comes in to our yard will have a much easier time getting across it. Here is to the New Year and a new tip for Newton... no cat in the New Year for you.
