PIKE'S CORNER I cannot believe my sister is going to States on Maui for track this weekend. She qualified in all 3 of her events. Last weekend she took gold medals all around for her events at the BIIF meet in Keaau. Her little, small but mighty HPA team also took home the girls BIIF championships this year for track and field, edging out Konaweana in the final girl's relay race. I know my sister is so proud to be on Maui representing not only her school but the Island. She is actually jumping long jump today at 11:45am. My mom went over early today to watch her, and dad is joining her tomorrow for the day to watch her. She will be jumping high jump and triple jump on Saturday. I sure wish I could pass as a service dog so I could go too. I am always so excited to see my sister perform or compete. She has a fighter's spirit and always has. I know she will do her very best to make her island proud of her. She is always such a good sport, and she always knows that my parents and our community are proud of her no matter what. I think it is amazing how everyone always checks in to see how she did. They send messages on Facebook, Instagram and often call the hospital just to let my parents know they are rooting for her. They say it takes a village and our little community has always rallied around my sister no matter what she is doing. The best part of this weekend other than my sister going to States though is that mom dropped Newton off at PAWS before she left to go to Maui so that dad didn't have to worry about it. Roberto is going to take care of Rome and I until mom and dad get back home. It's a short trip so obviously we will just be sleeping the day away mostly, Roberto is one of our Veterinary Techs and he takes great care of us when mom and dad are away for the day. I will be here sleeping, wishing my sister good hops, skips and jumps in her events. I know my mom will come back home without a voice from screaming and cheering her head off. My dad will have whistled so much his lips will hurt and by the time they all arrive back home they will be tired and will need the whole of Sunday to rest up. I want to wish all the athletes competing this weekend the best of luck and to my sister... Fly baby girl fly. You've got this. - Ruff.
