PIKE'S CORNER I am trying not to laugh, but the reality of it is watching my family chasing around behind the puppy for the last ten months has been pretty funny. It reminds me of when my sister was little and mom, dad and our whole staff was constantly trailing her telling her no or don't. They were always getting her out of some situation or cleaning up another. She was always on the move and never one to sit still, just like Newton. My sister was the perfect preparation for my mom and dad to get a puppy. I think it is funny, that they decide if they can do certain things based on when PAWS is open for day care. Newton loves PAWS and all of his friends he plays with up there. He gets to go a couple days a week and give us old guys a break. I cannot begin to tell you how happy Rome and I were to not have to deal with him on Memorial Day. Mom and dad had been at the office all weekend with countless emergencies and some building issues that had to be sorted out. They really needed a day off. When mom found out that PAWS was open on Monday, well lets just say the angles were singing. Rome and I got to stay home and sleep the day away in our favorite sun spots and my family got to spend the day being thankful and grateful for all of those who sacrificed to keep our country safe. Any day spent out of the office (well mostly) and spending some time outside in getting some natural Vitamin D is a good day. It is so important to make time for self care and while normally they are pretty good about it, the last couple months it has been a little harder. They are starting to go a little stir crazy I think, missing my brothers and family on the mainland. Mom is trying to convince my brother to bring his girlfriend home for a week (they are both vaccinated) but not sure it's going to happen. He has summer school and she just started a new job. am hoping this weekend helps them feel better. Ironman 70.3 Hawaii, aka Honu, is happening and my family is going to help work an aid station out on the run course. While dad will not be taking part in the race (no time to train lately) he will be out there cheering on our friends and fellow athletes as they take part in the first real race since the pandemic started. My sister just had her 2nd vaccine and mom and dad both felt if she was masked up it would be ok for her to help out. The puppy will thankfully be up at PAWS for the day. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to basically sleep the day away. I know, I know, my life is. -Ruff.
