PET CHRONICLES Back to school means earlier rising and later nights for most kids and parents. At our house it means back to driving a lot and more time spent on the road. It also means a change in our pet routines and suddenly instead of our summer 6:30am wake ups the dogs want breakfast at 5:30am. This morning it sounded like the ghost of Christmas past rattling chains in our bedroom as Newton was rattling his kennel like he was being attacked by an unseen beast in the early morning light as it ebbed through the blinds. Pike was in the hallway pacing the floor and Rome was still laying in his bed sighing like he was being put out by it all. I got up and came immediately back to bed where I could still feel the warmth of my sheets. Jacob lay there looking at me with tired eyes that said without words what I was thinking. Summer was too short. Dogs are too loud and our bed is so comfy. We both sighed and started to get up to add our own footsteps to the cacophony of 12 dog paws tapping out our marching orders. They all behave like we have nothing else to do but acts of servitude to the four-legged set of freeloaders that live here. The bummer sticker that says I work so my pets can have a better life is definitely true at the Head Ohana. If only they could at least make the coffee...the end of summer might be a bit more tolerable. Keauhou Veterinary Hospital, Experience your pet deserves, Experience you can trust.
