PET CHRONICLES Putting a not so puppy puppy into full pajamas is kind of like wrestling a furry alligator. Newton got a boo boo last weekend requiring us to fully sedate him (in Newton speak that's lots of drugs very little effect.) before we could repair him, first we had to try and bathe him. This was met with much frustration and water everywhere but on Newton. I'm happy to report that Dr. Head, our daughter Miss E and I also got a bath; one we neither wanted nor needed at that particular moment in the day. Once we got him cleaned up and shaved the injured area so we could assess it, it was time to repair it. We decided to use staples because in previous experiences where Newton has been concerned sutures no matter how invisible we try and make them are like a golden invitation to disaster. We also learned when we neutered him e-collars are basically like a moving deli slicers leaving no ankle, wall or ocher four legged friend uncut. Enter puppy PJ's. For those who are unfamiliar with this particular house hold necessity they are exactly like the sound. Full PJ's for the four-legged members of your family. Newton's are from our holiday photos. So apparently we are currently celebrating Christmas in March at our house. His PJ's are complete with a little faux button flap on the butt. It's pretty hilarious to watch him running around with his PJ's on with his tail sticking out the back of his puppy pants. He does pretty well about keeping them on for the most part. If he gets them off or you take them off to wash them however putting them back on is less entertaining. He is sore on his hurt leg so naturally he doesn't want yoou to touch it. He will let you put the outfit over his head and usually doesn't complain about it when you put his front legs through the front leg holes. The back legs however are where the process gets dangerous. He immediately tries to bite you. Naturally we do the good leg first but now in anticipation of what he knows is to come, he starts his snapping turtle impression followed by his best alligator death roll. He tries to lay down making it nearly impossible to un-suction cup him from the floor. He magically makes himself heavier and you have to force him to stand up, being mindful of your fingers and your face. Snap goes the jaws, crack go the teeth. You hold his collar pointing the biting bits away from you fumbling with your opposite hand to guide his leg into the pajamas. As you successfully adjust the pajamas he resigns himself and gives up defeat and promptly begins to sulk. You give him an ice cube as a reward and then let him outside where he immediately runs out and rolls in poop and you must take off his pajamas and wash them again.. All is clearly fair in love and war. Newton has dearly declared war. Keauhou Veterinary Hospital, Experience your pet deserves, Experience you can trust. Best Pet Care LACE BEST Hawaii 2020 13 Years!
